AmeriCalc ships with a Video Tutorial Series
that you can view right on your computer. It is comprised
of 14 lessons from 2 minutes to 8 minutes in length. You can
select a lesson to view from the tutorial menu. To open the
menu inside AmeriCalc, first install and start the AmeriCalc program.
Then select "Open Tutorial Menu" from the "Help"
menu at the top of the AmeriCalc Screen. In the menu, select
the lesson you wish to view and click the "View..." button
the open it. To play the video, click on the triangular shaped
play button at the top of the player. Adjust you speaker volume
as necessary.
If you are prompted to insert the AmeriCalc
CD when you attempt to view a lesson, this indicates that the tutorial
files were not copied to the computer when AmeriCalc was installed.
You can still run the lessons from the disc. Just insert the
AmeriCalc disc in the CD drive indicated. If the Installation
begins, click on the cancel button. At the prompt, click on
the exit button to exit the installation. Now with the disc
still in the drive, select the lesson to view. The lesson
will be retrieved from the disc and will work the same as above.
On very old CD drives the movie may be a bit choppy. This
is due to the drive's limitations and can only be avoided by installing
the tutorials on the computer's hard drive.
Here
it is in PDF format.
You need Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher to open the file.
Most of our customers prefer to download the
fund data from our website. Do this is always free for customers.
However, for those individuals who prefer not to get involved with
internet downloads, we offer an update disc service. This
service is just $9.95 including shipping charges. We
will send you two CD-ROM discs. The CDs will be mailed in
mid-February and mid-March. To download the latest fund data,
Once you have an UPDATE DISC, insert it in
the CD drive of a computer with AmeriCalc 2005 installed.

fund data file onto your hard drive, you still need to Import the
data into AmeriCalc. To do this, Open AmeriCalc and select "Import
Fund Data" form the "Fund Data" menu at the top of
the screen. If you do not see the file name (it will be in
the format 2005FundData_A.IQU where the letter "A" will
change with each update) in the dialog box, navigate to where the
installation told you it stored the file. Select the file
and click "Open". You will be notified when the
import is complete. Remember, Multi -Users in networked environments
only need to import the data once per set.
The Fund Data Updates don't stop with
the disk, so check our website regularly for more fund information
updates.

Assuming you have the latest version of the
Demo Edition, it has all of the easy-to-use features of the full
version, with a few exceptions.
The Demo Edition will not allow you to add any client data
to the system. The Add, Edit and Import client data features have all been
disabled. This allows
you to experience the thoughtful design and full feature set of
the Full version. We
have even included some sample client data for you to experiment
with. Of course, if
you want to use AmeriCalc to prepare client returns, you have to
purchase a full version.
Of Course, the Demo Edition Contains
the Data for a Just a few hundred of the Thousands of Funds included
in the full version. To see the funds with data available
in the demo, look in the Quick Lookup Module.
There are two steps to updating the fund data
in the AmeriCalc program. The first is to Download it from
our website. The second is to Import the data into the AmeriCalc
program. To Download the data, go to the Fund
Data page of our website. Find and click on the appropriate
file to Download. Make sure you SAVE the file to you hard
disk. Pay close attention to the name of the file and the
folder where you are saving the file.
Once the download is complete, open the AmeriCalc
program. In the program, click on the Fund Data menu at the
top. Then select "Import Fund Data" from the list.
An open File dialog box will be displayed. If the file name
is not in the selected folder, navigate to the folder where you
saved the file when you downloaded it. Once you have found
the file, select it and click on the "Open" button.
The import will begin. Depending on the update's size, you
computer's speed and your network speed, this may take several minutes.
Be patient. When the update is done, you will be notified.
If you would prefer not to download and import
the data manually, consider our update disc service. For a
total cost of just $9.95 we will send you two discs during the first
half of the season. Just pop the discs in and your database
will be updated automatically. Call for details.
Throughout AmeriCalc, "N/A" always
means not available. When we have some information for a fund,
but do not have all the data, we will provide you with what we have.
To indicate that we don't have a particular piece of information,
we use N/A. This DOES NOT mean that the information is not
applicable to the fund, or that we have given up looking for it.
It simply means that at the time we distributed the data set you
are working with, we did not have that data. Whenever the
percent is "N/A" the dollar amount for the exemption or
deduction will always be calculated as zero.
Fund Data Sets are referred to by the tax year
and sequential letter (e.g. 2005 A , 2005
B , 2005 C , etc.). However, if
you miss a fund data set in the sequence, do not worry. Each
data set is cumulative for the tax year. In other words, data
set 2004 E contains all of the data that was in data sets 2004 A
through 2004 D, plus the new additions for E.
No. If you have the multi-User Edition
of AmeriCalc installed on a network, only one user on the network
needs to import each Fund Data Update into the database. It
will then be available to all users. Additionally, because
someone else may have already imported the data set you are about
to import, we suggest you first check to see the latest data that
has been imported into your database. To do this in AmeriCalc,
click on the HELP menu at the top of the screen. Then select
"About AmeriCalc" from the menu. On the right hand
side of the About box, in green writing, the latest data set will
be displayed in the format: "Fund Data 2005 A".
If you have the Multi-user edition, but the
computers are not networked, or if you have Single User editions
on more than one computer, than yes you must download and import
the data on each computer.
Click Options, Import Data, and open the Excel
file that contains the client data. Make certain that all
the column headings match those described on page 23 of your User's
Guide. Column A should be empty. Columns E and H must
contain data. Column P must contain either the word "TRUE"
or the word "FALSE". All the other columns can contain
data up to the listed maximum number of characters or they can be
blank. Make sure your zip codes contain the leading zeros.
Some programs will export zip codes as numbers and Excel will drop
the leading zero as unnecessary. AmeriCalc will then import
it as text and the zip code will be missing the zero in front.
If you encounter unexpected errors or unusual
program behavior, click Start, Programs, AmeriCalc, Optimize AmeriCalc
Application. After that completes, click Start, Programs, AmeriCalc,
Optimize AmeriCalc Database.
You cannot delete clients from the database.
However, you can stop a client from being displayed in the client
lists by making him/her In-Active. To set a client to Inactive:
- Select the client you wish to make inactive.
- Click the Client Info tab.
- Click the Edit button.
- Clear the Active checkbox.
To see Inactive Clients again, open the Option
screen, Check the box to "Show InActive Clients" and click
on the "Save Options" button.
Yes, if you have the AmeriCalc Multi-user edition.
For about the cost of two single-user licenses, up to five users
can share the same database. This means that everyone in the
office will be able to see and benefit from everyone's data entry
and imports. This ensures consistency and increases efficiency.
Additionally, you can add as many users as you want in single user
increments. To learn more about upgrading to the Multi-user
Edition, call us at 603-893-8800 today, or order
on-line.
All data that is displayed on one of the reports
may be exported to Excel, except mutual fund data that is not specific
to one client. Assuming
that you are not trying to export this data, simply select a report
in the report screen, click on the Export to Excel button, provide
a file name, and click Save.
The data will be available in early Mid January
and we will post updates here
at least once a week through February.
If you get a message telling you that the CD
key is wrong, be sure you are entering all of the characters correctly.
The CD-Keys do not contain the letter O or the letter I.
To re-enter the CD key after you start the
program, type Ctrl + k (press and hold the Ctrl key and press the
letter k), and then enter the CD key without dashes or spaces.
Note to System Administrators:
In some highly secured Windows environments, it is possible to restrict
user access to the system registry to the point that AmeriCalc cannot
access the CD-Key stored there. If you are certain that the
CD-Key is entered correctly, but continue to get and "Invalid
Key" message, try logging in as administrator. If this
solves the problem, then the security to the registry is too restricting
for AmeriCalc to function. Give the user full read, write,
edit permission to the TaxCalcUSA key under HKey-Local Machine -
Software in the registry.
This error message should only occur with the
Multi-user Edition of AmeriCalc 2004. It is caused by the named
file not being properly installed or registered by the installation
program. It will not occur if the installation was able to install
and register the file, or if the file was previously installed by
another TaxCalcUSA application.
This error can be corrected by downloading
and running Service Release 4a. This update includes a more bullet
proof installation and registration routine for this dll. This fix
is the sole purpose of SR4a.
SR4a only needs to be run on PCs encountering this error. However,
because the error occurs so early in the program's initialization,
SR4a cannot be be automatically propagated to other AmeriCalc installations
like most of our other service releases. It must be run individually
on each machine that encounters the file msldbusr.dll file not found
error message. It will not harm a PC to run this update if it is
not encountering the error.
